After there was a change in laws in California, many prisoners that were being punished for multiple crimes at the same time found that their sentences could be reduced. A previous three strikes law made it so that inmates sentenced for three crimes, the first two being violent, would be imprisoned for a much longer time than they would be under normal guidelines.
After last year’s change in the California three strikes law, the law made it so that this would only be the case if the third crime was also violent. This means that many people serving serious time for crimes that were nonviolent and not serious were able to seek a reduction in sentence. Since then many judges have awarded reduced sentences to those affected by the change in the law.
